Project Noche Grata has come to Cartagena’s Isla de León

The project, translated as “Pleasant Night,” consists of the construction and installation of five lampposts in an undeveloped sector of Cartagena.

The project is an initiative aimed at bringing light and electricity to different populations of Columbia. Led by the Tierra Grata Organization, the work will install lampposts with solar panels and LED bulbs that favor hundreds of families.

According to the Columbian Ministry of Mines and Energy, nearly 500,000 families in the region do not have access to electricity. The Institute for Planning and Promotion of Energy Solutions for Non-Interconnected Zones (IPSE) also notes that up to 66% of the country does not have access to electricity.

“Bringing light to every corner of Columbia allows us to impact an entire population and generate development and improve living conditions,” explains Jenifer Colpas, the executive director of Tierra Grata. “Residents of the neighborhood, previously trained in the deployment and administration of these energy systems, are assisting our efforts.

Tierra Grata is working with the Fonducar and Tecnar regions of Isla de León and has constructed and installed five lampposts. “To date, we have established projects for the villages of Palenque, Púa, Hondible, Seydukwa, and Gambote, and impact 200 individuals,” Colpas said.

These lampposts will last 25 years, guaranteeing 110 thousand hours of light for the places where they are installed. “I am happy because with these new installations I feel safer even in my own home. Previously all the light bulbs I had put on the terrace of my house were stolen,” explains Pedro Bravo, who helped construct the lampposts. “I thank Tierra Grata because from tonight there will be another change in the neighborhood.”

The lampposts’ range of light is up to 20 meters, and recycled elements such as accessible and economical PVC pipes are used for its production. This, coupled with state-of-the-art technology such as solar panels and high-efficiency batteries, ensures continuous 12-hour lighting performance.
